How drone technology helped Texas County crews battle 220-acre wildfire

LICKING, Mo. (KY3) -A fast-moving wildfire scorched over 200 acres in Texas County this week, pushing volunteer crews to their physical limits. But emergency officials say a critical piece of technology, a drone, is the main reason they were able to get ahead of the flames and protect nearby homes. The wildfire broke out around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday off Slaughter Road near BB Highway in Licking due to a property owner burning trash in a grassy area during high heat and dry conditions. For Licking resident Sandy Freeman, the afternoon quickly turned chaotic. “I was a nervous wreck,” Freeman said. “It started over in here on my property.
