Hurricane forecasters track multiple threats for Hawaii

So far this hurricane season, Hawaii has been repeatedly in the crosshairs, with two hurricanes (Lala and Lowell) already passing close to the Aloha State. Unfortunately, the trend looks to continue as the Pacific hurricane basin remains active. First, a weak tropical disturbance (yellow x and yellow hatched area on the map below) near Hawaii could affect the state in the next few days. According to the National Hurricane Center, "disorganized showers and thunderstorms located more than 500 miles to the southeast of the Hawaiian Islands are associated with a broad trough of low pressure. Some gradual development of this system is possible over the next few days while it moves generally northward and then meanders to the southeast of the Hawaiian Islands." The National Weather Service in Honolulu does not see this system as a major threat to the islands, noting that it may bring increased humidity and showers by Tuesday, Sept.
