Hurricane Lowell’s path gets closer to Hawaii

Hurricane Lowell's forecast track has shifted closer to the state, increasing the threat of heavy rain, gusty winds and dangerous coastal conditions — especially for the western islands. Usually an invisible swirl of air, this passing dust devil became impossible to miss when it flung pool inflatables and furniture cushions skyward. A cluster of three hurricanes has formed in the central and eastern Pacific — areas primed for tropical activity by El Niño. Southeast Texas saw life-threatening flooding even as storm Edouard lost steam. Online speculation said “brown ocean effect” aided the rain, but the simpler explanation was right next door.
