Hurricane watch issued for Kauai as Lowell’s track shifts closer to Hawaii

Hurricane Lowell was morning north as a Category 3 storm Sunday morning. It is forecast to pass west of Kauai on Monday night and raise the risk of storm surge, waves, flooding rain and tornadoes across parts of Hawaii. Hurricane Lowell is forecast to pass near Kauai on Monday night, raising the risk of storm surge, massive waves, damaging wind, flooding rain and even tornadoes. On Sunday evening, the National Weather Service issued a hurricane watch for Kauai County, as the official forecast track of the storm shifted to the east, closer to the islands. The potential for damaging wind gusts was increasing, particularly on the northern and eastern shores of Kauai, the weather service said.
