LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A New York man being held at a Kentucky federal prison was sentenced for attempted murder on Wednesday. Mufid Elfgeeh, 42, will spend an additional 19 years in prison after he stabbed his cellmate at United States Penitentiary McCreary after being denied a request for a private cell by the U.S. After Elfgeeh ignored commands to stop his attack, he was subdued by prison staff after three uses of OC spray, OC vapor grenades, multiple foam/rubber baton rounds, pepper balls and hornet nest munitions were used on him. He was convicted following a two-day trial in April. Elfgeeh was previously sentenced in 2016 to 270 months in federal prison for attempting to provide support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
