'Innocent bystander': Father shot, killed outside NW Indiana liquor store; family seeks answers

Brent Jones was leaving the store when his loved ones say he walked through a fight. EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WLS) -- The death of a northwest Indiana man has now been ruled a homicide, according to the Lake County, Indiana Coroner's Office. "Wrong place, wrong time, innocent bystander," said Maria Parris, whose cousin, Brent Jones, died late Saturday night. "There was something that went on that didn't have nothing to do with him, and he was shot," Parris said. The shooting happened outside Euclid Liquors in East Chicago. A growing memorial now marks the spot on the sidewalk where the shooting occurred. "There's no win in this situation, and it just needs to stop," Anthony Higgs said. "We don't need to lose people in this form or fashion in today's world."
