That's the question being asked by CMS in its proposed physician payment rule , issued this past summer. Although everyone agrees on the importance of prevention, "evidence regarding the impact of the AWV on outcomes is mixed," the authors of the rule wrote. "Some studies have found that AWV receipt is associated with increased use of preventive services but may not sufficiently close gaps in preventive care.
