A Jefferson police officer will not face criminal charges for fatally shooting a man who authorities say charged at him with a knife and stabbed him following a pursuit in Greene County, according to the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. The office said in a Monday, Aug. 31, news release that Officer Shaydon Thurman was legally justified in shooting Keegan Dean Kennedy. A 10-page report released with the announcement provides a more detailed account of the July 26 pursuit and shooting, which was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. According to the report, Thurman first tried to stop a black Dodge Charger at about 1:25 a.m. after seeing it drift while turning a corner.
