The jury found Chance Topp guilty on several charges, including murder, endangering children, strangulation, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, domestic violence, reckless homicide and falsification. He was found not guilty on one count of aggravated murder and one count of murder. Licking County deputies and officers with the Utica Police Department were called to a residence on Crestview Drive in October 2023 for a report of an unresponsive infant, whose family members called Riley Jo.

Topp was arrested and originally charged with involuntary manslaughter.
