A 69-year-old driver from New Jersey has been charged in a fatal crash Thursday on Interstate 81 in Virginia, authorities said. Kathleen Gajewski, of Plainfield, was charged with reckless driving after she rear-ended another SUV at about 3 p.m. near mile marker 64 in Wythe County, Virginia State Police said. The crash occurred when a southbound GMC Envoy driven by Gajewski hit a Jeep Compass that had slowed in traffic following an earlier collision on the northbound side. A juvenile passenger in the Jeep died at an area hospital while three adults in that vehicle suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The juvenile was wearing a seat belt.
