Kenai thwarts Service’s 3-peat attempt in Alaska Legion Baseball state championship

While the Kenai Post 20 Twins may not have seemed like the team to beat all summer during the 2026 Alaska Legion Baseball season, they were the last ones standing in the end. Facing off against the talented Service Post 28 Cougars, who were seeking a third straight state championship on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Mulcahy Stadium, Kenai emerged victorious, snapping a decade-long title drought with their 4-2 win. “Both the programs from Kenai and Soldotna were slated to be state champions for the high school season, but it just didn’t work out that way,” assistant coach Jesse Dockins said. “For the teams to combine and actually come and win the state championship for Legion is pretty impressive, and I’m really proud of these guys.” He views the team’s whole run through the tournament as a “tremendous accomplishment” as the players have historically battled larger baseball programs. “This is a very tough competition for our kids,” Dockins said. “Coming from the (Kenai) Peninsula, we’re a small school program down there. .
