Legionnaires' outbreak: Second death linked to South Bronx cluster

THE BRONX, New York (WABC) -- The New York City Health Department reported on Thursday that a second person has died in connection with the Legionnaires' cluster in the South Bronx. "We mourn the loss of each New Yorker, and our hearts are with their loved ones as they navigate this difficult time," said Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin. "We are grateful to our local elected officials who have joined us in outreach efforts as we respond quickly to cut off the exposure and investigate cases." The commissioner said that all cooling towers that tested positive through initial screening have been disinfected. He says the health department staff are working every day to spread the word, speaking with more than 1,700 community members, distributing over 4,000 pamphlets and contacting more than 140 organizations to help people recognize the warning signs and risk factos.
