FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — King County prosecutors have refiled a first-degree murder charge against Nicholas Lee Van Cleave in the 2022 killing of Richard Lavietes, according to court records. The charge was filed Sept. 1, weeks after prosecutors said they were notified that Western State Hospital planned to discharge Van Cleave to a less restrictive, nonsecure setting. Van Cleave was booked into the King County Jail on Wednesday. The previous case was dismissed Jan.
