Man charged with setting Spokane’s largest wildfire went to prison for killing his father

A man from Spokane, Washington, was arrested Monday and charged with setting one of the devastating wildfires that have destroyed hundreds of homes and other structures in and around the state’s second-largest city. Dozens of Spokane residents anxiously waited at a checkpoint to check on loved ones and their homes, grab essentials like medicine and feed pets after a blaze destroyed parts of their neighborhood. The fires, which hadn’t been contained at all as of Tuesday morning, have destroyed at least 700 buildings and forced about 67,000 people to evacuate.
