Man charged with shooting security guard outside bar extradited to northern Kentucky

(WXIX) - The man charged with shooting and critically hurting a security guard outside a Covington bar is back in northern Kentucky to face charges. Franklin Smith, 44, was extradited Wednesday from Hamilton County, Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders told FOX19 NOW. Smith is held on a $500,0000 bond at the Kenton County Jail with charges of “assault, 1st degree” and “convicted felon in possession of a handgun.” Smith eluded authorities for more than two months after fleeing the scene of the shooting outside Hat Trick’s Sports Bar on Madison Avenue early May 17, according to Covington police. He was arrested last weekend at a Sharonville hotel with the assistance of a SWAT team and held at the Hamilton County jail.
