SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- A man was convicted of murder after a "ding dong ditch" TikTok prank led to a shooting last year in Spotsylvania County. 27, a jury found Tyler Chase Butler guilty of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and unlawfully discharging a firearm at an occupied dwelling. The deadly shooting happened during the early morning hours of May 3, 2025, and involved three teenagers. During the trial, two teens testified that they were out banging on the garage door of Butler’s neighbor and then running away as a prank. Court documents obtained by DC News Now noted that one of the teens said that he and his friends had already gone to a couple of doors in the neighborhood, which he was not familiar with.

According to Commonwealth Attorney Ryan Mehaffey, the three victims were running down the street when Butler fired his gun. Records from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond noted that Bosworth had died from a gunshot wound that entered his back and exited through his chest.
