A Silver Spring, Maryland, man was found guilty of murder in a September 2024 shooting, after which he told a friend it was like squashing a bug in a recorded conversation played for the jury. Jeriel Martin, 35, was convicted of second-degree murder and a weapons charge in the shooting death of 34-year-old Jamar Jenifer. Martin faces up to 60 years in prison. Police found Jenifer lying in a pool of blood in an alley in the 8000 block of 13th Street in Silver Spring on the morning of Sept. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, a surveillance camera outside the Galaxy Apartments captured the shooting.
