The death of a Middle Smithfield Township man who was shot last week has been ruled a homicide, according to the Monroe County Coroner. Coroner Thomas Yanac identified the victim as Sean Thornton, 37, of Middle Smithfield Township. Thornton was involved in an incident at 696 Marshalls Creek Road on September 4, according to the coroner's office. He was taken to the emergency department at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono, where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m. Yanac determined Thornton died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
