Man sentenced for violent attack, sexual assault on woman walking to work in Salem

(KPTV) - A 20-year-old man was sentenced this week to 25 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in Salem last year, according to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday. According to the DA’s office, on the morning of June 16, 2025, Jonathan Muhire approached a woman who was walking to work on Commercial Street Southeast and asked her if she had a boyfriend. She made it clear that she was not interested in speaking with him, but Muhire grabbed her hand and put his arm around her. When the woman tried to pull get away from him, Muhire shoved her into bushes and down a steep embankment, then attacked her and slammed her head into the ground. That was also where Muhire began to sexually assault her.
