PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after prosecutors say he shot and killed another man checking on a crying woman in northeast Portland. Arvoni Alexander Hayes, 25, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm in Multnomah County court on Friday. According to prosecutors, Aaron McInnis was dropping off a friend at home near Normandale Park in July 14, 2024, when a man asked McInnis to help check on a woman heard crying in a nearby car. The two men found Hayes in a car with his girlfriend. Hayes was reportedly naked when he stepped out of the car and eventually agreed to leave the woman alone.
