As of Monday, Plaskett was at 15,478 acres (24 square miles), said fire managers for the U.S. Forest Service — more than five times its area three days earlier. It is now California’s fifth-biggest fire of the year. Twenty-five miles to the north, the older Timber Fire was mapped at 24,970 acres (39 square miles) with 21% containment. The map above shows the evacuation areas in red and the approximate fire perimeters as a black line.
