The Meijer store on East Sunset Drive reopened Friday morning after a hostage situation ended with a Waukesha police officer shooting the suspect inside the store. The store normally opens at 6 a.m. WISN 12 News saw customers being turned away Friday morning before Meijer reopened the store around 7 a.m. “We appreciate the quick response from local law enforcement to yesterday’s unfortunate situation at our E. Sunset Drive store,” Meijer said in a statement just before 7:15 a.m. “We have reopened this morning so that we can continue serving the community.” The incident unfolded just before 6 p.m. Police said the suspect called 911 from inside the Meijer and told dispatchers he had a knife, had taken a hostage and wanted to speak with a negotiator.
