GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — The pilot of the military plane that crashed and triggered an evacuation order near County Road 633 and Jefferson Place in Grand Traverse County is in stable condition, state police say. Michigan State Police said the crash caused a hazardous chemical spill, which triggered the evacuation order for all businesses and properties within a one-mile radius of the crash. A shelter for those affected, Grand Traverse County Emergency Management said, has been set up at Kensington Church at 6880 Secor Road. Michigan State Police said the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has confirmed the crash involves an F-16 from Texas. The military plane was reportedly on a routine training mission from the Air National Guard's Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena when it crashed.
