Missoula Co. hosts wildfire preparedness event

Montana residents are no stranger to how devastating wildfires can be within our communities. On Monday evening in Missoula County, experts with the U.S. Forest Service, Missoula County Government and Wildfire mitigation gathered at a free event to educate homeowners on how to protect their property. "I hope they know that there are real things they can do today to reduce their risk of wildfire. Whether you're willing to redo your siding or you're willing to switch out your bark mulch for some noncombustible gravel or just rake the pine needles out of your gutters," Missoula County wildfire resilience planner Ella Langer said. "There are small things every single person can do to reduce the ignitability of their home." The workshop included a presentation on different actions homeowners can take, an interactive activity identifying different dangers in homes and a raffle where the winner took home some heavy-duty gardening shears.
