MoDOT adjusts work schedules around Mizzou football games as I-70 project continues statewide

COLUMBIA, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Tiger fans from across Missouri are heading to Columbia for the first football game of the year, encountering a record number of construction zones on the state’s highways along the way. Improve I-70 is a $2.8 billion construction project adding a third lane in each direction to I-70. Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provided $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build the third lane across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville. Eric Kopinski, lead engineer on the Improve I-70 project, said the scope of work underway is unprecedented. “We have more construction taking place across the state of Missouri than we ever have in the history of Missouri,” Kopinski said.
