Montgomery County Council member experiences heart attack while playing basketball

Montgomery County Council member Will Jawando, the Democratic nominee for county executive, had a heart attack over the weekend. Jawando’s office said in a statement Monday that he was playing his “regular weekend pickup basketball game” when he experienced a heart attack Saturday morning. Jawando, 43, was taken to the George Washington University Hospital in D.C., where a stent was placed. His office said that doctors are “confident in his full recovery given his strong overall health” and that he is “resting comfortably.” He is expected to go home from the hospital later this week. In June, Jawando won the Democratic nomination for Montgomery County executive, making him the clear favorite to win the position in November in the deep-blue county.
