The parents of a 3-month-old girl have been indicted on first-degree murder charges months after investigators determined the infant died from severe malnutrition caused by caregiver neglect, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Darren Campbell said deputies responded to 1029 Brawley School Road in Mooresville on May 13, 2026, after receiving a report of CPR in progress on the infant. First responders attempted life-saving measures before the child was taken to Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division determined the infant had lost approximately one-third of her body weight since birth and was suffering from severe malnourishment and dehydration. Investigators said the infant's parents, Kendal Lee Hayes, 34, and Glenn John Delgreco II, 33, along with the child's grandparents, Alice Loraine Evans and Thomas Virgil Evans, all lived in the home and shared responsibility for the infant's care.
