The inmate charged in the murder of a Morgan County correctional officer died early Tuesday morning. Reginald Steed was charged with first-degree murder after District Attorney Russell Johnson said he stabbed Dustin Pedigo, a correctional officer at the Morgan County Correctional Complex, in February. The Tennessee Department of Correction is investigating Steed’s death. Steed was serving a 27-year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated robbery and attempted voluntary manslaughter at the time of Pedigo’s killing.
