Mother, child killed in apartment fire in Iberville Parish

MARINGOUIN, La. (WAFB) - A mother and a child died in an apartment fire on Monday morning, Aug. 31, according to the Maringouin Fire Department. The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the two as Lauren Carter, 22, and Layton Carter, 6. Emergency officials responded to the scene at the Ridgewood Apartments on Ridgewood Drive in Maringouin around 6:30 a.m. Fire Chief Stanley Washington said a neighbor helped the mother get out of the apartment, but she died on scene.
