Mother pleading for answers after 4-year-old daughter shot inside home

A 4-year-old girl remains hospitalized and may never walk again after she was shot twice in the back while sleeping inside her South Cumminsville home, according to her family. Diahmonii Hope was injured when gunfire erupted on Lillie Place around 5:30 a.m. on Aug. Her mother, Don'Asia Hope, said bullets tore through the room where Diahmonii was sleeping and struck the child in the back. “She’s had a lot of surgeries,” Hope said. “They still don’t know if she has to get a surgery due to her spinal cord being injured. Right now, I guess their focus is if she can walk or whatnot.” Family faces an uncertain recovery Before the shooting, Diahmonii loved gymnastics, dancing, cheerleading and swimming. “She always does flips, and she’s into gymnastics,” Hope said. “She dances and cheers.” Nearly three weeks after the shooting, Hope said her daughter still cannot move her legs. Despite everything she has endured, Diahmonii has maintained her playful personality—rolling into other children’s rooms and “popping wheelies” in her wheelchair.
