CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland police have identified the off-duty officer involved in a fatal shooting last week as 22-year-old Myron Priest. Police spokesman Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz confirmed the identity on Thursday, and re-iterated that the officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. Police said Priest was present on May 20 at the Park Place Apartments in the city’s Hough neighborhood just before 8 p.m. when 26-year-old Akili Hammond was killed . Police Chief Dorothy Todd described it as a “highly unique and serious situation” that transpired because of “a verbal altercation involving several individuals.” A dispatch log said Hammond walked up to a black GMC with a gun and “got shot by the driver” who had an automatic weapon.
