A 44-year-old man who was wanted for a series of felonies, including shooting a woman to death as authorities attempted to track him down in a remote area of Northern California, was killed by deputies during a shootout in a heavily wooded area early Monday morning, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office. The suspect, Derek Spencer, was initially sought for stealing a car and pointing a gun at victims in Placer County on Saturday. Authorities attempted to apprehend him, but he escaped when he rammed his vehicle into a patrol car. Authorities spent hours searching for Spencer in a heavily forested area of Iowa Hill.
