New Orleans, West Baton Rouge DAs square off in SEC, NCAA fight over ex-pro athletes and LSU

Two heavyweight Louisiana politicians and attorneys appear to be pitted against each other in a high-stakes legal battle over college sports. Court filings Wednesday show Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams has been brought in to help represent the Southeastern Conference in its bid to prevent member schools — most notably, LSU — from rostering ex-professional athletes looking to return to college for a fifth season. Williams, through his private practice, signed off on a filing made on behalf of the SEC. It is not clear what role he would play in the case; he could not immediately be reached for comment. Nonetheless, his involvement would put Williams opposite Tony Clayton , the chief prosecutor for West Baton Rouge, Iberville and Pointe Coupee parishes in the 18th Judicial District.
