New York murder suspect shot and killed by police in Western Mass.

A man wanted in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend in Long Island, New York, was shot and killed by police in Erving Wednesday night, prosecutors said. Massachusetts State Police learned the man might be in the state around 7 p.m., when New York State Police alerted them that he could be at the French King Motel in Erving, Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early said at a Thursday afternoon press conference. A task force composed of area police found the man standing in front of the building smoking a cigarette. Police ordered the man to surrender, but he instead pulled a knife out of his clothes and began approaching officers, Early said. Officers shot the man and ordered him to stay down.
