North Carolina officer gets 8-10 years in prison for shooting, killing motorcyclist after chase

(QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A former Newton police officer has been sentenced to nearly 8-10 years in prison after pleading guilty in the shooting death of 21-year-old Camden Childers. According to court records, former Lt. Carlos Alverto Uribe, 29, entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of second-degree murder. He had originally been charged with first-degree murder. The shooting happened June 26, 2025, after a motorcycle chase through Catawba County.
