NTSB: Cargo plane struck cleaning van, SUV before coming to stop outside MIA

MIAMI — Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board provided an update on Sunday’s plane crash outside Miami International Airport . Sunday afternoon, the Amazon cargo plane, operated by 21 Air, went off the end of a runway, crashing into several cars and catching fire before coming to a stop next to a parking lot. Five people were killed and five others were hurt, with three of the injured victims listed in critical condition at last check. During the press conference, new information was made available regarding what happened in the immediate moments after the plane touched down. “The plane struck navigational aides and equipment, then impacted a 2012 white Ford Econoline van that was owned by Professional Ocean Service Corporation, which is a contract cleaning company for the airlines. In the van were seven persons on board,” said NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy. “The aircraft then traveled through a perimeter fence, and impacted a Toyota Corolla Cross LE, which was traveling on Northwest 67th Avenue,” she said.
