Portland police shot a man Monday night. The police department said officers received a call about a disturbance at 8:16 p.m. on Colonial Road. Officers were led into an apartment, where police reportedly saw 41-year-old Brian Oliver assaulting another man, identified as 69-year-old Mark Tschamler. Police said Oliver did not comply with commands to drop his weapon and was shot, according to a news release from the department.

The officers on scene, David Moore and Joseph Lowe, have been placed on administrative leave, as is customary after incidents involving deadly police force. Police said he will be charged with murder. Oliver is in custody and is being treated at Maine Medical Center.
