One dead in homicide in southeast Austin, suspect at large, police say

Posted: Aug 30, 2026 / 04:28 PM CDT Updated: Aug 30, 2026 / 10:38 PM CDT AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person is dead after a homicide in southeast Austin near Burton Drive and Woodland Avenue, according to Austin Police. Austin Police Officer Aaron Townsend said that officers responded to the area for a “shoot/stab hotshot call.” When officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle crashed into a fence at an intersection on Woodland Avenue. A man was inside the vehicle with obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, Townsend said. Authorities said they are searching for a suspect who left the scene before officers arrived. They said the suspect left in an unknown direction.
