VOLUNTOWN, Conn. — One person was killed Sunday night after a vehicle crashed into the woods and caught fire in Voluntown, Connecticut State Police said. The crash happened around 7:29 p.m. on Beach Pond Road, according to state police. State police said a gray 2006 Honda Civic was traveling west on Route 138 when it left the road, hit several trees and came to a stop in a driveway. The driver, identified as 54-year-old James R. Orowson Jr., was pulled from the vehicle by an off-duty firefighter who stopped to help.
