A 20-year-old Palm Bay woman was killed on Interstate 95 in Brevard County after a chain-reaction crash caused by an alligator on the roadway, and a hit-and-run driver remains at large, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred just before midnight Sunday near mile marker 214 between Palm Bay and Melbourne in the center lane of southbound I-95. According to an FHP report, a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-350 struck an alligator in the road, causing a 2004 Toyota Tacoma behind it to swerve and lose control. The Tacoma overturned, ejecting its driver into the center lane. An unknown vehicle then struck the ejected driver and fled the scene.
