It was a tragedy that has left classmates, teachers and community members mourning as police continue searching for a second person believed to be involved in the gunfire. In a message sent to families, Patriot High School Principal David Van Gelder confirmed that one of the school's students lost her life in the shooting and said counseling resources would be available to support students and staff. "It is with profound sadness that I share that one of our students lost her life during the tragic shooting that occurred Friday evening at the First Friday event in Old Town Manassas," Van Gelder wrote. Police have identified the victim only as a 16-year-old girl.
