THE CANADIAN PRESS/Handout — BC Wildfire Service (Mandatory Credit) CLINTON, BRITISH COLUMBIA - The Pear Lake wildfire prompted a series of expanding evacuation orders for parts of British Columbia's south Cariboo region on Friday, while officials warned of gusty winds in the forecast that raise the risk of aggressive fire behaviour. The Thompson-Nicola Regional District added 375 properties in the Loon Lake area east of Clinton, B.C., to an existing evacuation order, shortly after expanding the order to cover more than 500 properties on the south side of Green Lake. The properties are located north and east of Clinton, B.C., where officials continued to assess structural damages after the blaze surged a week ago.

But ongoing wildfire activity was restricting access to some areas, and there remained "strong potential for additional damage," the statement said. "Given the scale of the damage, restoring power will require rebuilding large sections of infrastructure, not simply repairing isolated outages," it said.
