Pilot survives plane crash into Southern California airport hangar

A pilot is lucky to be alive after crashing a small plane into a hangar while attempting to land at an Inland Empire airport over the weekend. Officers with the Upland Police Department responded to the crash Sunday afternoon at Cable Airport in Upland. “Officers learned the pilot experienced a mechanical failure and collided with a hangar while trying to bring the aircraft down,” police said in a Facebook post Monday. Photos released by authorities show significant damage to the plane's nose and right side after it struck the hangar. “Fortunately, the pilot, who was the sole occupant, suffered only minor injuries and was able to walk away,” police said. The pilot was not publicly identified. The aircraft appeared to be a single-engine Cessna.
