Pilots killed in deadly Alaska plane crash identified

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The two pilots flying a chartered plane that crashed last month, killing all eight onboard, were identified Friday. Security Aviation released the names; 73-year-old Dave Furber of Anchorage, and 34-year-old Sergei Zelenkov II of Chugiak. Both were employed by the airline that operated the twin-engine Cessna 441 Conquest aircraft that went down in foggy conditions Aug. 20 near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in western Alaska. “Security Aviation continues to mourn the tragic loss of Captain Furber and First Officer Zelenkov, and extends our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Security Aviation wrote. “Both pilots were skilled, experienced members of the company’s flight team and beloved members of Alaska’s aviation community.” The other six who were killed in the crash included two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers workers, three contractors, and a lieutenant from JBER.
