Police identify pedestrian killed in Kahului collision

KAHULUI, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities have identified the 61-year-old pedestrian fatally struck by an SUV earlier this week in Kahului as Lynette Kealoha of Wailuku. According to the Maui Police Department, the collision occurred Wednesday at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Kaahumanu Avenue, near the South Wakea Avenue intersection. Investigators said a white 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound in the inner lane when it struck Kealoha as she attempted to cross northbound outside of a marked crosswalk. Kealoha suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV, a 70-year-old Wailuku man, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
