CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was shot early Wednesday morning in west Charlotte, and the shooter has remained on the run. The shooting happened just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 9, on Enderly Road near the intersection with Tuckaseegee Road. Police Chief Estella Patterson said that just a few minutes before the shooting, a 911 caller reported a suspicious vehicle with two people inside it. The officer found the vehicle within five minutes.

Patterson said the officer did not shoot back, and an eyewitness tried to help the officer before he was taken to the hospital. Police have not yet said if that person has been arrested.
