World-Herald Executive Editor Ben Doody shares some thoughts about Mike Patterson, the legendary World-Herald sports reporter who's retiring after a 38-year run in the newsroom. Without a doubt, Mike Patterson has worn the most hats in covering the most beats by a World-Herald sports reporter. His list starts at the pro level: Supernovas, LOVB Nebraska, Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Beef, Vipers, Storm Chasers. On the college level: UNO, state colleges and the College World Series. But high schools have been Mike’s primary beat for nearly 25 years.
