Monday, Lowell still had 110 mph winds and was centered 90 miles west of Lihue and 190 miles northwest of Honolulu, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center. Barking Sands on western Kauai recently saw sustained winds of 51 mph with a gust of 84 mph; Lihue Airport, which closed this afternoon, reported sustained winds of 53 mph with a 79 mph gust; and Daniel K Inouye International Airport in Honolulu recently reported a gust of 45 mph, according CPHC.
