Queens teen killed: NYPD searching for suspect after 14-year-old boy shot in back over scooter in Edgemere

EDGEMERE, Queens (WABC) -- Police in Queens are searching for a killer who shot a 14-year-old boy in the back who was on his way to play basketball with a friend. Detectives think Malakai Adams was shot by someone who was trying to steal his scooter. The shooting happened at 51-24 Beach Channel Drive at the Ocean Bay Apartments in the Edgemere section just after 3:30 p.m. When police arrived, they found the 14-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the back at his apartment complex.
