Recount upholds Maureen Porras’ lead in Doral City Council Seat 2 race
A manual recount upheld incumbent Maureen Porras’ lead in the race for Doral City Councilmember Seat 2, with Porras defeating challenger Fernanda Gomes by 12 votes, according to results announced Saturday by the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections. Porras received 9,596 votes, compared with 9,584 for Gomes, Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia announced after the recount was completed on Saturday. The race between Porras, a Nicaraguan American nonprofit immigration attorney, and Gomes, a Venezuelan real estate agent, remained exceptionally close following Tuesday’s election, triggering a recount under Florida law.
